Reading a building handover checklist

A handover inspection is your last moment of leverage. Check the lift certification date, run every tap for pressure, test the generator changeover, open and close every window, and photograph any tile or paint defect before you sign. Confirm that the parking space you were sold is the one marked on the approved architectural plan. Ask for the building’s occupancy certificate rather than taking its existence on trust. Essential Verification Points: • Substation & Generator load testing with full building load. • Fire safety equipment, hose reels, and emergency exit clearance. • Rooftop waterproofing and drainage slope. • Deep tube-well water testing report (iron & salinity).
